Shown is the Mosque of Sultan Hassan, constructed between 1356 and 1363. This Mosque is considered one of the masterpieces of Mamluk architecture and is featured on the Egyptian one hundred (100) pound note. The structure in the background (top right) is the Citadel. This image showcases the origin of Cairo's nickname The City of a Thousand Minarets.
