Dating to somewhere around 1850 this is a most impressive Hunting Hanger, a type of short Sword carried by a gentleman hunter, very possibly in the Black Forest. This example has a brass mounted single edged 17 inch long blade, which looks to have been shortened over the years due to sharpening. The brass pommel cap is cast in the shape of a Lion's head.
