Product Marketing and Sales
What are product marketing and sales? What do companies need to know about their best practices? Let us find out together in this article. So, read on.
Product Marketing and Sales
Product marketing and sales refer to the activities that occur between the time a product is conceived and the time it’s sold to a customer. It can be considered as a process that includes five stages namely: Pre-launch, Launch, Post-Launch, Post-Sales, and End of life.
We will not go into the details of each stage. Instead, we will focus on how to do product marketing and sales properly. What does “doing it” mean? It means getting a product sold successfully and at profit.
What does it mean to “get a product sold successfully”? Selling a product is an art, but producing a good or service and marketing it is an even harder task to accomplish. You need to consider so many aspects including what your target customer wants, what your competitors are doing, etc.
Product Marketing and Sales: How?
Let us see some ways to get the product sold successfully:
- Customer Targeting. In this first step, you need to clearly understand who your target customer is and what makes him/her choose you instead of other companies in the same industry.
- Product Differentiation. You need to make sure that your product has something special over others in the market. What makes you stand out?
- Reaching Out To Customers. Just building a product and expecting customers to flock to your door is never going to happen unless you are offering something revolutionary. Or have some other reasons for bringing customers towards you (e.g. best price). So, you need to reach out to customers by providing them with information about your company, products, and more.
- Delivering Your Product. It means delivering what you promised at the beginning of the sales process. That is, providing quality products/services that your customers want at a reasonable price point.
- After Sales Support. Your customers want their needs addressed as soon as possible after purchase. That is, they expect timely servicing and troubleshooting of their problems related to your offerings (including minor problems).
- Repeat Sales. Again this comes down to the quality of products/services delivered. If customers are satisfied with their first purchase then they might be interested in coming back for more purchases with you rather than looking elsewhere for similar offerings.
Why Is Product Marketing and Sales Important?
This is important because it is directly related to the survival of your company in the market. If you are not doing product marketing and sales properly then you will certainly face some tough competition from other companies. And eventually might be forced to shut down your operations.
Selling your product or service is a key factor for business success. Whether you are running a small business or a large enterprise, you need to understand the importance of sales and how to do it properly.
Conclusion
So, if you want to set up a new business or want to grow your existing one then you need to pay attention to product marketing and sales. Do it properly and you will see the results soon. On the other hand, if you ignore it then you will face some tough times.
